UNC Greensboro received $2.4 million in state funds to establish an esports facility on campus, recognizing esports as a viable career path for students.

The 3,300-square-foot Esports Arena, designed by Horizon AVL, provides a high-level learning and gaming environment for academic engagement, social interaction, and league competitions. Students can enroll in various esports digital certificate programs, and those pursuing a bachelor’s degree in hospitality and tourism management can opt for an esports management concentration.
Horizon turned to Crestron Electronics and its DM NVX 4K60 HDR platform for AV-over-IP to control the esports arena seamlessly. Each of the 48 gaming stations, including 12 for competition, is equipped with top-notch hardware, including Acer Predator PCs, monitors, keyboards, mice, and headsets. A Crestron control system manages the video routing and control, ensuring a nearly zero-latency experience for shoutcasters, spectators, and coaches.
