A career path investment has been launched by the UNC Greensboro Arena. The UNC Greensboro Esports Arena combines competition, academics, and socialization. The esports industry’s immense revenue globally has led academia to address this growing field. UNC Greensboro received $2.4 million in state funds to establish an esports facility on campus, recognizing esports as a viable career path for students.
The 3,300-square-foot Esports Arena, designed by Horizon AVL, provides a high-level learning and gaming environment for academic engagement, social interaction, and league competitions. Students can enroll in various esports digital certificate programs, and those pursuing a bachelor’s degree in hospitality and tourism management can opt for an esports management concentration.
Horizon turned to Crestron Electronics and its DM NVX 4K60 HDR platform for AV-over-IP to control the esports arena seamlessly. Each of the 48 gaming stations, including 12 for competition, is equipped with top-notch hardware, including Acer Predator PCs, monitors, keyboards, mice, and headsets. A Crestron control system manages the video routing and control, ensuring a nearly zero-latency experience for shoutcasters, spectators, and coaches.
UNCG benefits from the Esports Arena both academically and competitively. The advanced technology provides career opportunities for growth, learning, and skill development for students while also promoting campus engagement and community-building through esports competitions and events.
