The National Testing Agency (NTA) will start the registration process for the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) in June 2023 today, May 10. Candidates who are interested can apply for the exam on the official websites – ugcnet.nta.nic.in or nta.ac.in. The last date for applying for the UGC NET June 2023 exam is May 31.

The announcement was made by UGC Chief, M Jagadesh Kumar, on his Twitter account. According to a tweet by UGC Chief, M Jagadesh Kumar, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will conduct the UGC-NET June 2023 exam in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode for 83 subjects. The exam will be conducted for both Junior Research Fellowship and eligibility for Assistant Professor.

UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) is a national-level exam that evaluates the eligibility of candidates for the role of Assistant Professor and provides a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of UGC.

UGC NET Eligibility Criteria 2023

The UGC NET (University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test) has certain eligibility criteria that candidates must meet to be able to apply for the exam. These include educational qualifications, age limits, and relaxation in age limits.

  • For the post of Assistant Professor, candidates should have completed a master’s degree or equivalent in the relevant subject with at least 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/transgender category candidates). Candidates who are in the final year of their master’s degree or awaiting results are also eligible to apply.
  • For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor, candidates should have a master’s degree or equivalent with at least 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/transgender category candidates). Candidates appearing in the final year of their master’s degree are also eligible to apply. However, for JRF, the upper age limit is applicable (see point 3 below).
  • There is no upper age limit to apply for the eligibility for Assistant Professor. For JRF, the upper age limit is 30 years as of the specified cutoff date. A relaxation of up to 5 years is provided to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWD/Transgender categories and to women applicants.
  • Candidates with research experience can avail a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant subject of post-graduation, subject to a maximum of 5 years. Similarly, candidates with continuous teaching experience in recognized institutions can also avail a relaxation of up to 5 years, subject to a maximum of 5 years.
  • Finally, as per the Government of India’s norms, there is a reservation policy in place for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD/transgender categories. It is important to note that the eligibility criteria mentioned here are based on general guidelines, and candidates are advised to refer to the official notification or information brochure released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for detailed and updated eligibility criteria specific to the year of the examination.

UGC NET 2023 Selection Process
