The exam will be conducted for both Junior Research Fellowship and eligibility for Assistant Professor.

UGC NET Eligibility Criteria 2023

- For the post of Assistant Professor, candidates should have completed a master’s degree or equivalent in the relevant subject with at least 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/transgender category candidates). - For Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor, candidates should have a master’s degree or equivalent with at least 55% aggregate marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD/transgender category candidates). Candidates appearing in the final year of their master’s degree are also eligible to apply. However, for JRF, the upper age limit is applicable (see point 3 below).
- There is no upper age limit to apply for the eligibility for Assistant Professor. For JRF, the upper age limit is 30 years as of the specified cutoff date. A relaxation of up to 5 years is provided to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PWD/Transgender categories and to women applicants.
- Candidates with research experience can avail a relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant subject of post-graduation, subject to a maximum of 5 years. Similarly, candidates with continuous teaching experience in recognized institutions can also avail a relaxation of up to 5 years, subject to a maximum of 5 years.
- Finally, as per the Government of India’s norms, there is a reservation policy in place for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD/transgender categories.
