CUET-UG not based on CBSE syllabus

According to the Education Ministry, the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG is not based on the CBSE syllabus but assesses students’ general understanding of class 12 subjects. Union Minister of State for Education, Subhas Sarkar, stated that the test aims to provide a level playing field for students from different boards.

CUET is specifically conducted for admissions in central universities starting from the academic year 2022-23. Its purpose is to alleviate the burden on students, universities, and the education system as a whole. The syllabus is designed to test students’ understanding of subjects at the class 12 level and is not limited to the CBSE syllabus.

The minister clarified that there are no plans to eliminate any school board and recognize only one for class 12 exams before taking the CUET-UG.

The CUET-UG is the second-largest entrance exam in the country based on the number of applicants. In its first edition, 12.5 lakh students registered, with 9.9 lakh submitting applications. The second edition saw over 11.11 lakh candidates appearing for the exam, conducted in nine phases between May 21 and July 5.
