IIT Delhi has joined hands with the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) and the Ministry of Education in India to establish a new campus in Abu Dhabi. The collaboration was solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed recently. The primary objective behind this partnership is to create an international campus of IIT Delhi in Abu Dhabi, promoting academic excellence and cultural exchange between India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The official press release emphasized the significance of extending IIT Delhi’s educational expertise to Abu Dhabi, offering students in the region access to world-class education and cutting-edge research facilities. This move follows IIT Madras’s recent establishment of its global campus in Zanzibar, Tanzania, East Africa.

Prof Preeti Aghalayam, the dean of the School of Science and Engineering at IIT Madras, will lead the new international campus in Abu Dhabi as its director, marking the first time a woman will head an IIT campus. Initially, the campus will offer 50 seats for the BS course and 20 seats for the M Tech course.

Admission to IIT Madras’ Zanzibar campus will involve a screening test covering mathematics, science, English, and analytical ability. Successful candidates will proceed to interviews with faculty. Eligibility for the BS program is open to students who have cleared class 12 or its equivalent in the past three years, while those with a four-year UG degree in any engineering or science discipline may apply for the MTech program. This collaboration between IIT Delhi, ADEK, and the Indian Ministry of Education is set to open new horizons for academic excellence and international educational opportunities in Abu Dhabi.
