Introduction

NIFT, the National Institute of Fashion Technology, conducts a national-level design entrance exam to select candidates for admission to its participating institutes in 2024. Currently, there are 18 participating institutes offering a total of 5,215 seats in programs such as B.Des, M.Des, B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M.

The NIFT entrance exam consists of two parts:

Part I – This includes the written exams GAT (General Ability Test) and CAT (Creative Ability Test). The GAT paper is mandatory for all programs, while the CAT paper is only required for B.Des and M.Des candidates.

Part II – Candidates are shortlisted for Part II based on their performance in the written exams. For B.Des candidates, Part II involves a Situation Test, whereas PG candidates are required to appear for a Personal Interview. However, for the B.F.Tech program, admission merit lists will be prepared solely based on GAT scores.

The FINAL score of NIFT 2024, except for the B.F.Tech program, will be calculated by considering the performance in the written exams and the Situation Test/Personal Interview.

While applying online for the NIFT 2024 entrance exam, candidates must adhere to the following instructions:

1. Create a login by providing the following details: Candidate’s Name, Date of Birth, Re-enter Date of Birth, Category, PwD (Person with Disabilities) status, Email-ID, Programme Type, and Programme Applied.
2. It is important to use a personal and valid email ID. Do not use someone else’s email ID.
3. Each email address can be registered for only one candidate.
4. Provide a valid mobile number as all information will be communicated via SMS.
5. Safely keep the registered ID for future reference.
6. Print out the filled form for future use.

NIFT Exam Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the NIFT ET 2024 exam, candidates must meet the eligibility criteria outlined below for the respective programs:

For Bachelor’s Programs (B.Des, B.FTech) in Fashion Design, Leather Design, Accessory Design, Textile Design, Knitwear Design, and Fashion Communication:

• Candidates must have passed 10+2 from a recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as CBSE/State Board New Delhi or CISCE, New Delhi.
• Alternatively, a pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination with a minimum of five subjects conducted by the National Open School is accepted.
• A 3 or 4-year diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education is also eligible.
• Candidates who have passed any public school/board/university examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the AIU equivalent to 10+2 standard are eligible.
• GCE Examination (Sri Lanka/London/Cambridge) at the Advanced (A) level or International Baccalaureate (IB) are also accepted.

For Bachelor of Fashion Technology (Apparel Production) (B.FTech) Program:

• Candidates should have passed 10+2 level from a recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, such as CBSE, New Delhi or CISCE, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
• A 3 or 4-year diploma in any Engineering course recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education is also eligible.
• A pass grade in the 10+2 level examination with a minimum of five subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics conducted by the National Open School is accepted.
• Any public school/board/university examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to the 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics is eligible.
• GCE Examination (Cambridge/Sri Lanka/London) at the Advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics or International Baccalaureate (IB) are also accepted.

Qualifying Age:

• The maximum age should be 23 years as of October 1, 2023.
• The upper age limit may be relaxed by 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST/Person with Disability (PWD) categories.

For Master’s Programs (M.Des, M.F.M, and M.FTech):

• For Master’s Program in Design (M.Des), candidates should have an undergraduate degree in any discipline from a recognized institute/university or an undergraduate diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT/NID.
• For Master’s Program in Fashion Management (M.F.M), candidates should hold a degree of Master of Fashion Management in any discipline from an institute/university recognized by law in India or an undergraduate diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT/NID.
• For Master’s Program in Fashion Technology (M.FTech), candidates should have a B.FTech. degree from NIFT or a B.E/B.Tech. degree from any university/institute recognized by law in India.

NIFT Exam Cut Off

At the time of result declaration, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) will release category-wise cut-off marks for the NIFT 2024 written tests. Candidates can log in to the result portal to check their qualifying status. It is important to note that the qualifying score or cut-off for NIFT 2024 is different from the admission cut-off.
