The Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar (IIT GN) has commenced its flagship foundation programme, enrolling a total of 368 students from 20 different Indian states and a Union Territory. Among the states, Maharashtra has the highest representation with 81 students, followed by Gujarat with 64, Telangana with 51, Rajasthan with 40, and Andhra Pradesh with 39, among others. Notably, the new batch comprises 70 female students, reflecting a commitment to diversity.

IIT Gandhinagar Flagship foundation Programme objectives

The primary objective of this programme is to shift away from the highly competitive environment of the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and provide students with a more holistic educational experience. In pursuit of this goal, the institute intends to expose candidates to various creative, communication, mental, and physical development activities. Emphasizing teamwork and community service, students will be encouraged to explore different forms of art and engage in other enriching pursuits.

The curriculum of the foundation programme in IIT Gandhinagar includes a diverse range of sessions and workshops. Students will be immersed in conflict resolution exercises using theatre-based experiences, explore the world of organic paint making, delve into the realm of free and open-source software (FOSS) and digital privacy to comprehend their significance in our technologically evolving world. They will also undergo gender sensitisation training, receive guidance on mental health, participate in a game development workshop with a focus on social entrepreneurship, conduct science experiments, learn calligraphy, explore the culinary arts through cooking sessions, engage in personality reading, and actively participate in sports and cultural activities.

By integrating these diverse activities and workshops into the foundation programme, IIT Gandhinagar aims to foster well-rounded individuals who possess not only technical knowledge but also a wide range of soft skills and interests. This approach is expected to prepare students to be better equipped to tackle real-world challenges and become responsible contributors to society.

As the students embark on their journey at IIT Gandhinagar, the institute remains committed to providing a supportive and nurturing environment, encouraging them to explore their potential and passions while instilling a sense of responsibility towards the community and the world at large.
